Wisc Account Administration - Making "Description" field multi-line or adding a Notes field
In Wisc Account Administration (http://email.wisc.edu/admin), could you either change the "Description" field under Account Administration > Account Profile from a single line field to a multi-line field OR add a Notes field on the Account Profile tab to facilitate communication between administrators on a domain.
Currently you can type more than what fits in the single line box, but then you can't see it without scrolling or copying the text elsewhere. It also makes it difficult to edit or add to the text. And for communication between administrators, the approx 70 character width text box is not enough.
My preference would be to add a separate Notes field and keep the Description as a short Description. But, I suggested making Description a multi-line field as the first option as I figured that would be a fairly easy front-end change, whereas adding a Notes field would involve more programming and new entry in the database.
Justification: Having such a field is important for effective account administration
- Efficiency (efficient way to document the info and an efficient way for the reader to get them)
- Accuracy and prevention of issues/errors (not having or not seeing important issues on accounts can lead to changes that cause significant issues for users performing their work, inefficiences, and security issues)
- Staff from multiple groups (e.g. DoIT help desk, departmental support, Dept tech staff) are interacting in this space, so it is important to have some way to communicate this info to prevent errors, even if these groups aren't in direct communication.
- Continuity when there are staff changes
